ABOUT THE GRAND JURY

The 19 members of the Mendocino County Grand Jury serve a one year term and are empowered to investigate the operations of the various officers, departments and agencies of local government, as well as to provide civil oversight of County government departments and agencies and responding to citizen's complaints.  Each Civil Grand Jury determines which officers, departments and agencies it will investigate during its term of office.

The Grand Jury is a function of Mendocino County government, and recruitment of citizens to serve on the grand jury is administered by the Superior Court.  More information about the Mendocino County's Grand Jury can be found on the Grand Jury website at www.mendocinocounty.org/government/grand-jury

WHO SERVES ON THE GRAND JURY?

Grand jurors are agents of change in their communities. They come from all walks of life. They bring with them a broad range of interests, talents and life experiences, but they share a dedication to democratic ideals and a willingness to devote their time and energies to matters of civic importance.  No particular background, training or experience is necessary to be a grand juror. In fact, it is the diversity of its members that is one of the grand jury’s greatest strengths.
